Ep 58. How this black woman created a $2 million subscription business

This week, we’re talking to Makaela Richardson of Free The Fresher about creating this business as a student in London.

Originally from Bermuda, Makaela moved to the UK at 18 to pursue her college degree. If you don’t know, London is expensive, and as a student, it’s even worse! Makaela couldn’t find any program that would provide school supplies and living expenses at an affordable price, so she decided to create it herself!

Makaela started her college subscription service with zero funding and within its first year, Free The Fresher had acquired over 30,000 members. Now, at just 24, Makaela’s business has processed over $2 million in revenue (in 2019).

The best part about her story is that The start of Free The Fresher was all self-funded.

Makaela’s journey hasn’t been perfect but it’s certainly been worth it.
